  • Description is exactly "A Friday, September 23, 1898 Florence Herald report of the midnight, September 23, arrest of African-American resident of Florence Sandy Simpson, who was arrested after he allegedly attacked a woman who had earlier left his company because of his drunkenness, then assaulted Chief Lipscomb, Sheriff Carson and several deputies when they attempted to arrest him.

Sandy Simpson (ca. 1875-) married Ida Thompson (ca. 1880-1915) on December 24, 1899 in Florence. By 1900 Sandy and Ida lived on Prospect Hill in Florence in a rental house and Sandy worked as a day laborer.

It appears as though da Simpson died in June of 1915 in Chattanooga, Tennessee and is buried in Huntsville, in Madison County, Alabama.

Sandy Simpson had a previous arrest in November of 1899 for public drunkenness however the court opted not to prosecute him."
