- Description is exactly "An August 13, 1890 Florence Herald report of an incident on Monday night, August 12, at the "Magnolia House," a "low dive" on College Street, in which African-American Eb Howell was badly cut on the neck and abdomen by a black character known as "Black Bill," after Howell attempted to mediate a dispute between Bill and an African--American woman named Fannie Powell. Bill escaped and it is not known whether he was ever apprehended or not."
