Alexander "Aleck" Foster (ca. 1850-1905), referred to as "one of the landmarks of old Florence," according to his 1900 census enumeration, was born ca. May of 1850. His parents are not known at this time.
On December 22, 1880 Aleck married Callie Handy (1850-1912) in Florence and the couple had five children, three of whom were still living by 1900: Augustus (ca. 1882-), Jenkins (ca. 1886-) and Viola Foster Pruitt (1888-1969). In 1900 Aleck and Callie had two of Aleck's nieces, Bessie a (ca. 1883-) and Susie (ca. 1885-) Simpson living in their house. Daughter Viola married Mason Pruitt in Chicago, IL in January of 1908. In the 1910 census Callie Foster was living on Dearborn St. in Chicago with Viola and Mason.
By 1900 the Fosters lived on Irivine Avenue in Florence and Aleck's occupation was house painter.
On Callie Foster's death certificate her mother's name was recorded as Viola Johnson.
Aleck Foster died Sunday, February 19, 1905 at 55 years old and Callie died of apoplexy on December 12, 1912 at 62 years old. According to Callie's death certificate she's buried in the Florence City Cemetery; Aleck probably is, too however both burials are apparently unmarked.</a>
