James Rapier; reconstruction;
This book examines the life of James T. Rapier, who was born in Florence, Alabama and moved to Canada where he received an education. Rapier returned to Alabama after the Civil War and became active in politics. In 1872, he was elected to the House of Representatives and served one term. This book is an excellent resource for Reconstruction-era social history of Alabama.
