A June, 1904 *Florence Herald* report of young African-American Jimmy Holt, "just back from the coal mines, where he had served a sentence for stealing," who was arrested "Saturday morning," for "robbing the Jackson Dry Goods Co. in Florence of several pairs of shoes." Young Holt was apprehended by Officer Broadfoot at Seven Points but managed to make his escape on Court Street in downtown Florence.
