  • Description is exactly "3. Coffee School. According to Sandra Sockwell's "The Place Names of Colbert and Lauderdale Counties, Alabama," p. 156, land for the the Coffee Rosenwald School, on Gunwalefoird Road a few miles west of Florence was purchased in 1917 and eventually sold in 1957. The school was a "two-teacher type" school built at at a cost of $1,500, with $550 being raised the local Black community, $450 by the public, and $500 contributed by the Rosenwald Fund.

    And indeed, on February 28, 1957 the Florence Herald advertised the sale of the Coffee Rosenwald School property on March 16, at 11 am, at public auction."
