  • Description is exactly "7. Shiloh School. According to Sockwell, this school near Sinking Creek across Gunwaleford Road just west of its namesake, the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church succeeded the Jerusalem School which closed ca. 1919. Citing Lauderdale County Board of Education Minutes Sockwell further states that the old abandoned Ray School building was moved to the Shiloh lot in 1950. Use of the one-room frame Shiloh Rosenwald School was discontinued and the School was referred to as the Shiloh Negro School. It was closed in 1963.

    According to the Fisk University Database the Shiloh School was a "one-teacher type" school on 2 acres of land built at a cost of $1,800, the bulk of the funds--$1,150 being raised by the local Black community, $450 by the public, and $200 donated by the Rosenwald Fund."
