An April 2, 1920 Florence Times report that "on Tuesday last" Judge Grubbs of the federal court had 20 prisoners arrested in Lauderdale County over the past several months to appear before him in court, and released eighteen of them, all African-American, as no one appeared in court to prosecute them.
