A Florence Herald Thursday, October 2, 1919 notice that Friday afternoon, October 3, at 3:15 pm, Maj. Robert Russa Moton (1867-1940), principal of Tuskegee Institute, noted black educator and successor of Prof. Booker T. Washington, who had been appointed by US Pres. Woodrow Wilson, to investigate the condition of black soldiers during WWI, would lecture at the courthouse in Florence and everyone, black and white, was invited to attend.
