Will of Richard Rapier
In the name of God amen, I Richard Rapier of Florence and State of Alabama being in sound mind but in a weak state of health make this my last will & testament, to wit:
First I leave one thousand dollars to my executors to put to [illegible word] for the purpose of purchasing the freedom of the mulatto boy John who now waits on me & who belongs to the estate of Thomas [so?] soon as he is of age, or as soon as his master or his guardian can dispose of him[.] Secondly I leave to John Simpson my bay horse Charley & my picture. Thirdly I leave & bequeath all the ballance [sic] of my property, real and personal, to my brother James Rapier, now residing in Wayne County, Kentucky, and I hereby appoint John Simpson & Thomas Simpson of Florence executors to this my last will and testament as [witness?] whereof I have hereto signed my name and affixed my seal this third day of June 1824[.] Rich'd Rapier (seal)

I wish all my wearing appearal [apparel] to be given to to the boy John who now waites [sic] on me. I also wish my executors to give the boy John my beareau [bureau]--Witness my hand and seal the date above written[.]

The State of Alabama Lauderdale County
Be it known that Marshall Clark one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will & codicill [sic], thereto amended, came this day before the judge of the Orphans Court and made oath in due form of law that he heard Richard Rapier the maker thereof acknowledge the same to be his act and deed for the purposes therein contained and that he in presents [presence] of the other subscribing witness & they at the same time & in presence of each other became subscribing witness to the same[.] Given at Office of Clerk of the County Court for said county this 27th day of February 1826[[,]
