  • Description is exactly "A series of Florence Herald reports of crimes, arrests and trials involving African-Americans from the Shoals Area (Colbert, Franklin and Lauderdale Counties) 1930s.

Founded in 1886 as the bi-weekly Florence Wave, by 1930 one of two papers published in Florence (the other being the Florence Times; the Florence Tribune published briefly in 1934), with Marcy B. Darnall as managing editor of the then-weekly Herald, MC Giles as managing editor, and Mrs. Marcy B. Darnall as business manager.

Every effort has been made to identify all of the crime reports/notices in the Herald from the 1930s involving African-Americans however some may have been inadvertently missed.

The paper published follow-up articles on some of these cases, which were included if found. All of the articles are listed in chronological order."
