  • Description is exactly "A series of Florence Herald reports of crimes, arrests and trials involving African-Americans from the Shoals area (Colbert, Franklin and Lauderdale) in the 1950s.

Founded in 1886 as the bi-weekly Florence Wave, by 1940, Marcy B. Darnall was managing editor of the then-weekly Herald, Marcy B. Darnall, Jr. was business manager, Harold S. May was managing manager, and Lillie Stockard was local editor.

Every effort has been made to identify all of the crime reports/notices in the Herald involving African-Americans in the 1940s however some may have been inadvertently missed.

The paper published follow-up articles on some of these cases. All of the articles are listed in chronological order."
