    Note: John McKinley (1780-1852) was a Virginia native and trustee of the Cypress Land Co. which founded the town of Florence, in Lauderdale County, in 1818. He was also a lawyer, chief justice of the Lauderdale County court as well as a US Supreme Court Justice (1838-1852). McKinley moved to Florence from Huntsville in 1819 then back to Huntsville in 1825. In Florence his home was located at the intersection of Seminary Street and Veterans' Drive. The John McKinley Federal Building in Florence is named after him."
