  • Description is exactly "Florence historian Lee Freeman notes: "The African-American Independent Order of Immaculates was founded in Nashville in 1872 as a successor to the Young Men’s Immaculate Association which was organized in 1868. The Independent Order of Immaculates allowed both men and women members and like other benevolent groups, offered sickness, accident and disability benefits to members. The order quickly grew to become a national organization and by 1907 there were Immaculate lodges in Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Kentucky, Kansas, Arkansas, Texas, and Ohio.""
