- Description is exactly "This is a biographical sketch and photo of Percy Casey from the Florence Herald in 1897. Florence historian Lee Freeman notes: “One of the most worthy, generally respected and intelligent colored men of the city,” the “boss repairman” for the Florence Cycle Co. in 1897, who also at some point worked as an office boy and then pressman at the Florence Herald printing office. Percy was a son of Willis and Mary E. Casey, who lived on Jackson Road. He had three brothers and one sister. He died prematurely in 1902 from pneumonia and his funeral was conducted at St. Paul’s AME Church, with the Colored Knights of Pythias (a fraternal order, of which Casey was a member), escorting his body to the grave. The Florence Times reported that out of respect for Casey, several white people attended his funeral.""
