  • Description is exactly "This is a newspaper clipping about Rush Patton's sale of a partial lot to Reverend Benedict Menges. Florence historian Lee Freeman notes: "Rev. Fr. Benedict Meges, OSB (1840-1904), former priest of St. Michael's Catholic Church at St. Florian and first Abbot of St. Barnard Abbey in Cullman had originally founded St. Joseph Catholic Church in Florence in July of 1878 in the old school house at 201 S Cherry St., which in 1890 became the location of the RM Patton School (the city swapped properties with St. Joseph, giving them property on the hill above the City Cemetery in exchange for the Cherry St. property).""
