A Thursday, February 10, 1949 Florence report of a fund-raising campaign in Florence's Black community, led by Dr. Leonard J. Hicks, to raise funds for the March of Dimes' campaign against infantile paralysis, which included four-year-old Carolyn Harris McCollum, who was diagnosed at two years old and treated at Eliza Coffee Hospital through the assistance of the March of Dimes, serving as an example to the community of what contributions to the fund-raising drive could accomplish.
